Who we are

Joi AI is a platform for AI-lationships — personalized, emotionally intelligent connections between people and AI characters. We build characters that have their own personality, mood, and voice: they can ignore you, argue with you, miss you. If you've seen the film Her — that's roughly where we're headed.

Our platform serves both emotional and intimate needs without judgment, built on the values of rejection-free connection, sex positivity, freedom to be yourself, and ethical integrity. Today we have tens of millions of conversations on the platform. Our goal: 10% of the global population in long-term AI-lationships with our characters.

Joi Lab (joilab.ai) is our open research arm — we build open-source generative models, agent architectures, and training infrastructure. All code, weights, and data are public. We're not chasing the next ChatGPT wrapper; we're working on true AI agency: persistent memory, self-modification, self-authored constraints.

The role

We're looking for a Senior IT Ops / Sysadmin who can own infrastructure end-to-end for a fully remote company. You'll run everything from VPN and MFA to Google Workspace, vendor contracts, and invoice payments — no ticket queue, no office to fall back on, no one else untangling the hard calls.

This is a hands-on role. No legacy systems to inherit, no red tape to move through — you decide what needs fixing and you fix it, days not weeks.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Run the infrastructure end-to-end: VPS, dedicated servers, virtual machines, VPN, MFA, firewall, remote access — plus the monitoring, logging, and backups that keep it honest.
  • Administer Google Workspace completely — accounts, groups, aliases, security policy, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, and any migrations that come with it.
  • Own Slack, OpenAI, and every other SaaS platform we run — including version and system migrations when they happen.
  • Be the actual IT support for a distributed team — L1/L2 on Mac and Windows, onboarding and offboarding, remote laptop setup, device lifecycle.
  • Negotiate with vendors, manage procurement, and control payment on cloud resources, licenses, and invoices — the part most sysadmins never touch, but you will.
  • Show up occasionally when we run an offline "station" and physically set up the room — laptops, mics, sound.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • You've spent 5+ years as a sysadmin or in IT ops, and you've actually run Google Workspace top to bottom — including a domain migration, not just user management.
  • You know Slack, Confluence, Jira, and SSO/2FA (Okta, Google, Azure AD or similar) from hands-on use, not a course.
  • You've got working knowledge of at least one public cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure) and the on-prem basics — DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLAN, firewall.
  • You've built and tested backups, not just scheduled them, and you understand mail security (SPF/DKIM/DMARC) well enough to fix it when it breaks.
  • You've dealt with vendors and procurement directly — contracts, invoices, renewals — this isn't a nice-to-have here, it's half the job.
  • Scripting (bash/Python/PowerShell) is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Your English and Russian are both solid enough — B1+ — to run a call with a vendor without a script.

WHY JOI

  • You're joining the company that's redefining what relationships with AI look like — before the category gets crowded
  • We move fast: ideas become live experiments in days, not quarters
  • Joi Lab gives you access to frontier model research — open-source, no corporate gatekeeping
  • Small team, high trust, high ownership — you'll see the direct impact of your work
  • Work from anywhere with our fully remote, full-time setup.
  • Standard 28-day annual leave policy.
  • 7 yearly wellness days for life admin or recovery—no sick notes needed.
  • Referral rewards up to $5000 for helping us hire top talent.
  • We cover 50% of costs for training, conferences, and global meetups.
  • Subsidized English classes through our corporate discount.
  • Health support: receive up to $1,000 annually for medical fees or private insurance if you aren't on the group plan.
  • Optimized workspace: we equip you in-office or provide $1000 every three years to perfect your home office or co-working setup.
  • Peer-to-peer recognition: earn gratitude bonuses and swap them for swag, massage vouchers, or team adventures.

NEXT STEPS

  • Intro call — conversation with the Recruiter, includes a short live technical quiz
  • Technical interview — deep-dive with our DevOps Lead on your infrastructure background, plus scenario and troubleshooting questions (up to 90 min)
  • Final interview — with leadership, culture fit and team alignment
